Remediating My Work: My Babysitting Business

Full Script

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to look after someone who is much younger than you or possibly not related at all? Babysitting is one of those jobs that can be either cute or annoying depending on how tough the individual you have to watch really is. My name is Devonte Griffith and I’m about to tell all about the experiences of being a competent babysitting and how to be a great one in general.

The interesting things that I do for my babysitting job includes various things that several of you may enjoy if you do so during your babysitting. Looking over children is an great experience because it gives you some insight as to how a child develops him learning skills and what interesting things he or she would do. It also gives you that nostalgia of when you used to be that young and curious when growing up. Another thing would be watching TV with the child to make sure that he doesn’t watch any programs that doesn’t have get entertainment value, lacks educational value, or too inappropriate for him. It would a be a pleasant experience since it is one of the few times where the child wouldn’t be moving around too much. When it comes to food, you have to feed the child whatever his parents say is good for you to feed them, making sure he doesn’t eat anything that isn’t for him. You can easily play the role of the parent that keeps the child away from the dangers of junk food or alcoholic beverages. Making sure he doesn’t leave the house is highly recommended since there are times where they feel the need to leave the house, even if you’re entrusted to make sure he doesn’t escape. You do have to make the babysitting experience fantastic for the child by making him feel comfortable with you. Telling a few jokes or playing games with him would be nice.

What makes babysitting babysitting so fun? Well, that’s a question that I’ll answer with a few highlights from my job. I had to gain my cousin Jaden’s trust when I was entrusted to watch over him one summer. There were times where he was so ignorant that he whines over not getting his way or cry if I can’t let him eat any Twinkies. I would usually do a few funny faces while laughing to get his attention, he considers that very entertaining. Another resort would be to let him in on a few jokes, preferably knock-knock ones. Another interesting thing was when poor Jaden had tripped on the floor and skinned his knee. Due to my parental instincts, I knew that this was something serious that needed to be dealt with. I would pick him up and take him to the bathroom upstairs for the first aid. Then, I added a drop of rubbing alcohol on a band-aid and place it on his scar. Sure it did make him scream a little louder, but I calmly told him that it is needed to make the scar heal and be germ-free. The last interesting thing I’ve done with him was introducing him to video gaming. He held my 3DS as I’ve taught him the control for having fun in Mario kart 7, one of the most accessible casual games out there. He liked playing with Mario a lot due to his older siblings’ love of him and his great controls.

Now to tell about the few important things that I have learned when babysitting. One of them was that babysitting is the first step towards parenthood, as I’ve implied from the introduction. After seeing my parents in love, I’ve always wanted to know what it’s like being a parent and had acknowledged how well they had taken cared of my siblings and me. Babysitting is exactly like being a parent except the person you are responsible for isn’t you offspring, yet needs to be treated like one. Though, it’s pretty basic without the stress of working a job, having to drive the child around, or paying the necessary bills to conserve the house. During my babysitting time with Jaden, I’ve learned that teaching children new things can be pretty interesting. Just watching them learn how to play a new game or learning educational things from the shows they watch may peak your interests at any value. Like when I’ve taught him how to play Mario Kart 7 was something that he’s eventually remember for the rest of his life since I was patience enough to introduce him to something new. I’ve always want to reminded of the times I learned something new due to the guidance of my parents, hence how I’d fulfill the same role with my cousin Jaden. To conclude this, babysitting a child can make him smile and make you a better person. That means that you must be a very positive person if you think you have what it takes to be a babysitter.

Response to “Blood in the Gutter” and “The Six Steps” from McCloud’s Understanding Comics

In the inscription The Six Steps, McCloud outlines the path of six steps. The path of six steps are something to guide you while you are doing your work in life. Step 1 is the idea, which is impulses of the work that you’ve done in the past. Step 2 is the form, which is the appearance in which the description of your work will take. Step 3 is the idiom, which is the type of “genre” or style that your work is going by in any way, shape, or form. Step 4 is the structure, which is how the work is composed and putting everything that you have so far together in one mass. Step 5 is the craft, which is how you get the job done whether its applying skills, invention, problem solving, or practical knowledge to it. Step 6 is the surface, which is the results of adding all the finishing touches required to give your work the appearance it needs in order to be noticed. These are the 6 main steps that are needed to be followed in order to talk about or explain what your work is to others. A highly recommended method that’s required of us for this finale Writing and Rhetoric 1 for 2014 semester. McCloud latter talks about a concept known as the “Blood in the Gutter.” What that means is when a transition of ideas are done in a space (the gutter) to capture every moment from one frame to the other. In other words, you take two images and combine them together to form one idea to explain what happens. A good example is how comics would use a space with various frames, each one pertaining to a special idea. The comic panels fracture time and space in which makes a bunch of unrelated images connected, which feels more so when we get a mental image of the idea.
